The Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Hashim Thaçi, assessed as good news the arrest of the Serb indicted by the ICTY, Radovan Karadjic.
In an interview for the US television CNN shortly after the meeting with the US President George W. Bush and right upon hearing the news on the arrest of the Bosnia Serb, the Prime Minister said that this is something very positive for Serbia, for the Serb people and for the peace and stability in the region, and also for the US and European Union investments in the region.
Assessing the arrest as positive also for Kosovo, and for the relations between Serbia and Kosovo, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Hashim Thaçi reminded Serbia that it is their obligation to also arrest other criminals.
''Serbia should do more, because they have other war criminals inside, especially Ratko Mladic, who together with Karadjic committed the Srebrenica massacre,” said Prime Minister Thaçi, adding that Serbia is proving its readiness to cooperate with the Hague Tribunal but also to look ahead towards cooperation with the Western states.
''I think that they are looking forward to participation in NATO, EU, in the family of the Western countries and Western values,” said Prime Minister Thaçi, expressing his understanding about the celebrations following in the Muslim areas in Bosnia and Herzegovina after the arrest.
''I understand the people of Sarajevo, they have celebrated, because Karadjic, Slobodan Milosevic and Ratko Mladic have committed the worst crimes after the Second World War,” said Mr. Thaçi, and mentioned the fact that there was celebration also in Belgrade because “they want to see Serbia amongst Western-European countries.”
