The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Hajredin Kuçi, received in a meeting today the heads of the Sports Federations of the Republic of Kosovo. On this occasion, Prime Minister Thaçi was briefed on the latest activities of the officials and representatives of these federations in an attempt to attain membership in international federations and in the World Olympic Committee.
Prime Minister Thaçi congratulated them on the good work and activities so far of the federations they represent, pointing out that Kosovo is now an independent state and that teams and sportspeople from Kosovo should be part of the international competitions under the state flag of Kosovo.
The Prime Minister of the Government of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, said further that apart from the efforts on the political field to lobby for the recognition of Kosovo, sports can also play a very important role for Kosovo in this respect.
On this occasion, the representatives of the sports federations that are active in Kosovo thanked the Prime Minister for his support and called on the central and local institutions to do more for improving the working conditions of the clubs and the sportspeople. They also stressed that the sportspeople are the best ambassadors of the countries they come from. They promised that they will continue their activities to gain membership in international sports bodies.
“The Government and all the competent institutions will continue supporting and helping the sports federations of Kosovo in order to reach our goal to have our Kosovar sportspeople compete, showing their identity under the flag of Kosovo, in Olympiads and other European and world competitions,” said Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi.
