Current activities in the Agriculture and Environment Statistics Department

Agriculture Statistics Department published the publication from the Agriculture Household Survey 2005. The publication contains data on agriculture population and its structure, land surfaces, land use, agricultural crops production, livestock and livestocks production, use of mineral and organic fertilizers, pesticides, agriculture machinery, labour force in agriculture, farming expenditure etc. The publication presents data on agriculture for rural areas only.

Some indicators from Agriculture Household Survey 2005.

Size of agriculture household by number of members.

Most agriculture households have 5-8 members, 54, 1%.
The average number of agriculture households is 7.8.

Size of farms by used agriculture land.

The average size of agriculture household by agriculture land is 1.5 ha.
Whereas the average size for large and specialized farms is 19.3 ha.

Livestock

Cattle are the major livestock group, of which 53 % are dairy cows.
The average number of milk cows for those households that have milk cows is 1.53.

Agriculture production

Results from the Agriculture Household Survey 2005 show that grains and forage plants cover the majority of surface of arable land, with 90 percent.

  • Forage plants 41.4 %
  • Vegetables 7.4 %
  • Fruits 2.1 %
  • Other 0.1 %

More detailed information is being presented in the publication “Agriculture Household Survey 2005”.
The Sector is also getting prepared to conduct the Agriculture Survey 2006 (annual survey).

In the forestry statistics field there are ongoing activities with regards to data collection on forestry in public sector.

Agro-monetary statistics is preparing a publication on Agriculture Production Price Index for the period January – December 2005.

Environment Sector is working on environment data collection and processing.
