In November 2003, a cooperation agreement on Business Registration was signed between the SOK and the Ministry of Finance and Economy/Taxation Administration. In November 2005, another cooperation agreement on Business Registry was signed between the SOK and the MTI/Business Registration Agency. A Business Survey on the largest enterprises in Kosovo (around 600) was conducted as well. Due to the qualitative problems the survey results have not been published yet.
A survey on all Socially Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and some other public enterprises in Kosovo was conducted in cooperation with the Kosovo Trust Agency (KTA). The findings of this publication called Research of General Data on Socially Owned Enterprises 2002 were published in July 2005 (SOK, July 2005) . In March 2003, the SOK started the implementation of a project on Prices Monitoring for Food-Agricultural Products, as well as for other commonly consumed articles by households. Prices Monitoring project was carried out twice a month in 21 retail shops (by monitoring 55 food articles), and 7 green markets (by monitoring 30 main articles) in seven Kosovo regional centers: Pristina, Peja, Gjakova, Prizren, Gjilan, Ferizaj and Mitrovica.
A detailed Statistical Bulletin on price changes is published on monthly basis from June 2002. The total number of monthly Bulletins published is 72. Consumer Price Index on Annual Basis for 2002-2003 and 2004 was published in 2005. (This publication can be downloaded from this webpage at PDF format) CPI (Consumer Price Index) is continuing to be supported by Sida/Statistics Sweden. Other price indexes are to be developed, including Import Price Index. The data collection on import prices started the third quarter of 2003.
The data collection through new questionnaires (for around 180 articles classified according to COICOP) started in May 2002. Anticipated weights for CPI to include the official CPI for Kosovo (as of May = 100) is now published on monthly basis. “Final” Weights are taken into account, using data collected from Household Budget Survey from January 2004 to December 2005. As of January 2006, the CPI is accounted with weights and data on consumption realized for the period covering June 2002 – December 2004. The data collection for 210 articles classified according to COICOP now comes from 10 municipalities (urban and rural settlements).
Statistics on imports in Kosovo were published in a Statistical Bulletin based on the data provided by Customs from January to June 2001 and from June to December 2001. The quality of these data and especially their reliance is not sufficient. The third Bulletin for 2002 is prepared (see publications) with an improving data quality (even if the data have not been completed yet), including the figures on export as well. The Bulletins with estimated figures on export for 2000 and 2001 have been also published.
External Trade Statistics (ETS) in Kosovo are improved. As of July 2004, the Customs Service was transferred from BRICO to TIMS system. The SOK is publishing the external trade statistics by using the EUROTRACE program. As of March 2005, these data are monthly published (see publications). The SOK is now the only official source of external trade statistics. The external trade statistics were produced with the assistance of EAR/ICON Institute. The SOK signed cooperation agreements on external trade statistics with the Customs Service and the MFE/Kosovo Administration Taxation – KAT.
Planning of necessary system of economic statistics for National Accounts has started. Initially, preparatory works on data collection for GDP have been done. This includes a wide range of available statistics, such as: expenditure and incomes in households, Government Finances, Public Health, Public Education, KEK, PTK and several activities in Transport sector. In 2005, the GPD was calculated according to supply-and-utilize table (SUT) for 2002, 2002, 2003 and 2004, which is in the course of completion. GDP calculation has been supported by the EAR/ICON Institute. In 2005, the GDP calculation is also done according to expenditure table for 2002, 2003 and 2004. This calculation is done by the IMF multi-sectorial expert, Mr. Tigran Terlemezian, in cooperation with the SOK National Accounts staff.

As of January 2002, Sida along with Statistics Sweden as implementing agency have supported the development of economic statistics. The development work started with Business Register, Business Surveys, External Trade Statistics and Prices Statistics.
In March 2005, a new Sida /Statistics Sweden project started at SOK. It is a three year capacity building project that covers price statistics, external trade statistics and business surveys within the area of economic statistics
As of January 2002, SIDA along with Sweden Statistics as implementing agency have supported the development of economic statistics. The work development commenced with Business Registries, Business Surveys, External Trade Statistics, Prices Statistics and Household Budget Survey (HBS). The HBS database for the first year (June 2002– May 2003) is ready the analyses from the previous findings are under consideration by the SOK with the assistance of SIDA/Sweden Statistics and World Bank (poverty estimation). A tinny publication “Housing in Kosovo” is published based on the annual HBS data. Further findings for January 2004 are expected to be provided. Earlier, some preliminary findings are published based on the first quarter of HBS. In May 2003, the SOK published a brief update on poverty, prepared by the WB advisor. This update is based on six-months data collected in HBS database (see publications). The second HBS turn started in June 2003.
EAR/Euro stat started to support the economic statistics and distribution of publications in March 2003 (CARDS Program), up to March 2006. ICON Institute was an implementing agency to the project called “Support for the Statistical Office of Kosovo”. This project covered the following areas:

BPK (Banking and Payment Authority of Kosovo) provides the Monetary and Banking Statistics .
