Department of Economic Statistics As of the commencement of Temporary Registration of Businesses in accordance with UNMIK Regulation 2000/8, in 2000, the SOK carried out the following activities: It has set a unique business code for activities according to the Business Activity Nomenclature (NACE Rev.1).It has set a unique identifying number for businesses being registered. It maintains a Database on Statistical Registry of businesses being registered.

The publication on registered businesses as of 31 December 2000 (29 500) was published by the International Organization of Migration (IOM) and SOK in April. The SOK, assisted by IOM, published the second edition of Statistical Overview of Registered Businesses in Kosovo according to the situation from 30 September to November 2001 (41 000). The third edition of Statistical Overview of Registered Businesses in Kosovo shows the situation as of 30 June 2002 (54 000 businesses) published in November 2002.

In January 2003, the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) assumed the responsibility for Registration of Businesses in Kosovo. The MTI has the “legal” and public Business Register, whereas the SOK will develop a reliable statistical Business Register.
