Agriculture Households Survey (AHS 2003) was carried out in one phase as an autumn survey in December 2003.
Survey on Socially Owned Enterprises (SOE) and Agricultural Cooperatives was conducted in spring/summer 2003. The results were published in October 2003 (see publications). The report is available in Albanian, English and Serbian languages. Survey on Socially Owned Enterprises (SOE) and Agriculture Cooperatives was repeated during the summer 2004. Preliminary tables with data have been prepared and are now available.
In cooperation with the Kosovo Cadastral Agency (KCA), the SOK and MAFRD have studied the possibility of using KCA registers as a source for agriculture statistics. Statistics on land surface according to the municipalities and cadastral areas, which may be downloaded from this webpage in PDF format, have been produced by using the KCA registers.
The SOK and MAFRD have recently started a developing work on agro-monetary statistics . The developing work will be realized on agriculture prices statistics, Economic Agriculture Accounts (EAA), Farms Accountancy Data Network (FADN), Labour Force in Agriculture (LFA), and Incomes in Agriculture Households Sector (IAHS). The MAFRD is responsible for Farms Data Accountancy Network (FADN), whereas the SOK is responsible for the other components.
In November 2003, the SOK started collection of some prices of agricultural products. The Output Price Index of Agricultural Products for the period covering November 2003 – June 2004 and the Output Price Index of Agricultural Products for the period covering July 2004 – December 2004 have been published, while the Output Price Index of Agricultural Products for 2005 is under preparation and will soon be published in this webpage.
In February 2001, SIDA/ Statistics Sweden as an executive agency supported the agriculture statistics in Kosovo. This support has now been extended from the agriculture statistics to a new project called Agriculture Statistics and Policy Advisory Unit Kosovo (ASPAUK), funded by the EAR and being operational as of September 2002. The ASPAUK –I-Project is implemented by INFOGROUP Consultants. The statistical part of ASPAUK-I- project is dominated by the pilot FADN, the pilot agriculture census and establishment of a database on agriculture statistics. Pilot agriculture census is combined with Agriculture Households Survey 2004 (AHS 2004). The sampling range included around 4 700 agriculture households and large specialized farms, out of which there are 300 large specialized agricultural farms. Survey results have been published in the webpage and in printed form in Albanian, English and Serbian language.
With regards to the needs of agriculture surveys, the SOK along with ASPAUK-I-and ASPAUK-II-have updated the sampling framework during summer and autumn 2004, which was revised during summer 2005. Approximately 1/3 of Kosovo villages have been visited and every household responded to a questionnaire which served to collect data on land surface and livestock. The SOK is in possession of a database for 426 villages with 67 000 households roughly.
The second stage of ASPAUK project (ASPAUK II) started in April 2004 and ended in April 2006. The implementing agency was the NR International and the major components for ASPAUK II project were the Pilot FADN (Farms Accountancy Data Network), the pilot agriculture census and trainings. The Agricultural Households Survey 2005 (AHS) was coordinated and combined with pilot agriculture census. AHS 2005 vas conducted in November 2005. The sampling range included 4 500 agriculture households and large specialized agriculture farms (around 260 were large specialised farms). Results of AHS 2005 have been finalized and will be published in the webpage and printed form soon.
All agriculture surveys conducted so far covered various agriculture fields: agricultural population and its structure, land surface and land use, agricultural crops production, livestock and livestock production, use of mineral and organic fertilizers, pesticides, agricultural machinery, labour force in agriculture and other farming expenditure etc.
In relation to the development of agriculture statistics in Kosovo, the SOK has a close cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development (MAFRD).
The livestock farm holding register is established in cooperation with the project "Strengthen Public Veterinary Services in Kosovo" (SPUVESEK) funded by EAR. Around 91 000 livestock farms are being registered in the SPUVESEK database and this register (database) is available in the SOK.
Development of environment statistics started in spring 2004. SIDA/Statistics Sweden through a regional project on environment statistics in western Balkans is supporting the development of these statistics. In May 2004, a seminar on environment statistics was held in Belgrade and several working meetings are also held with Swedish experts from this field. A MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) is prepared together with institutions which have data on environment. The MoU will harmonize the production of environment statistics, data exchange and division of responsibilities between institutions. This memorandum will be signed by these institutions very soon.
As of March 2005, SIDA/Statistics Sweden is giving continuous support to the development of agro-monetary statistics, and this support is to be extended through February 2008.
